2018-2019 WSFL Preview: Cockburn EWA
Last Season: 6th
In true EWA fashion Daniel Canicais got the transfers done early and made a statement in welcoming Stirling duo Nicole Campbell and Sadie Lawrence to the fold. Both routinely WSFL Champions with Stirling, both massive additions to a side that threatened in patches over the winter.
That duo are exactly what the likes of Sabrina Neates and Mia Karaselimovic ordered in a side that flew high before the exits of Trine and Sofie Jensen and a few bad results. Still, wins against the established clubs were scattered throughout a debut season in the WSFL. With no obligation to train and the lower fees that come with it, EWA find themselves an attractive proposition across the leagues as the outdoor players look to futsal for the summer. Can they work the Stirling connection and bag Katie Schubert or Tia Stonehill?
The thing about turning points is that they often arise when you least supect it. For EWA, with a few more signings and a touch of luck this could be their moment.
Main Lady: Sadie Lawrence
Scores goals by the dozen and treats Golden Boots like currency. Massive statement of intent by EWA to get the Stirling goal machine into their colours for the summer. Undoubtedly her new team will benefit from a knack for making space for her team mates. Prepare to see a few smash and grab scorelines with the goal machine at the fore.
One to Watch: Courtnie Chambers
Former Melville Spirit stalwart, now a provider of mazy dribbles and cut backs for EWA. Hard working and with a burst of pace, it’s hard to believe how young she is. Technically she could play JSFL, in reality she could take the league by storm. Keep an eye on her.
