2018-2019 SFL Round 18 wrap-up
The double-header State Futsal League weekend commenced on Friday night with a high scoring fixture between Fremantle FC and Perth AFC. Fremantle avenged their loss earlier in the season with an 8-5 victory, with their exciting youngsters Benji Mikhael (3 goals) and Diego Florenca (2 goals) taking the plaudits. Captain Daniel Muzzarelli chipped in with 2 goals, taking his season tally to a remarkable 22 goals in 18 appearances. Dylan Steele impressed for AFC with 2 goals in his best performance of the season. The win took Fremantle up to 5th position on the table.
Stirling Braza Ginga FC turned their form around with an imposing 4-0 victory over Curtin Footballista FC. AJ Martino enthralled with 2 goals whilst youngster Ashley Green was Man-of-the-Match in goals; keeping Footballista scoreless for the first match all season.
The final match of the night was another high scoring affair with South Perth FC outlasting Balga FC 6-5. South Perth were well marshalled by their Czech wizard Jakub Prajza who scored 2 goals, along with the electric Filip Rojnica (2 goals). Conor O’Driscoll (2 goals) put in a solid shift for Balga, but their ever improving squad were unable to claim a draw from the match.
Saturday’s matches were very close affairs, starting off with a scintillating 2-2 draw between Joondalup ECU Jets and Spearwood Lions FC. Joe Higgins (21 goals in 18 matches) and Jamal Yusof (23 goals in 18 matches) again starring for their respective sides.
Murdoch Warriors FC continued their strong recent form with a 2-2 draw against Rockingham Cambio Cumbre FC, with Massimo Basolu excelling with 2 goals. Nestor Fonseca demonstrated why he is the strong favourite for this season’s MVP award with another imposing performance, taking his season tally to an extraordinary 35 goals in 19 matches.
The final match of the round saw an under strength Cockburn EWA FC defeat Perth Longobarda FC 3-2 in a close encounter, with Nikola Cvijanovic scoring for EWA and receiving his marching orders towards the end of the match.
