2018-2019 SFL Round 16 wrap-up
The mid-season transfer window closed this week.
Friday night lights at the Pro Futsal Centre in Bibra Lake, Western Australia, started with Fremantle FC victorious 4:2 over South Perth FC, with young gun Diego Florenca scoring his first hattrick in the State Futsal League. It was a good victory for Fremantle following their heavy loss the previous weekend. South Perth suffered their 3rd loss in a row and need to bounce back quickly to remain in the hunt for the elusive 6th and final play-off spot. That match was followed by Rockingham Cambio Cumbre FC running riot with an 8:1 victory over Joondalup ECU Jets, with Tyler Garner, Yazid Omar and Nestor Fonseca each scoring twice. Cumbre were clinical in this match. The final match of the evening saw Perth AFC suffer a 10:3 defeat to reigning champions Cockburn EWA FC, in front of a large AFC crowd and their sponsors. Whilst AFC did well in attack, scoring some lovely goals, their defensive weaknesses and errors came back to haunt them and in the end cost them the match and a heavy defeat. Brandon De Abreu scored his first hattrick for EWA. Declan Burdle and captain Mark Gavranic scored twice each. Sergio Coelho received two yellows for his 2nd sending off of the season.
The match of the round started proceedings on Saturday with 4th placed Perth Longobarda FC losing 4:5 to 3th placed Curtin Footballista FC. In an exciting encounter, Remo Capitani scored twice for Longobarda, but star goalkeeper Yethiha Aung received his marching orders for 2 yellow cards. They were his first bookings of the season. Farzam Mehrabi continued his good form with 2 goals for Footballista, taking his tally to 14 goals in only 13 matches.
In the surprise of the season so far, mid-table Murdoch Warriors FC inflicted the first defeat of the season on Stirling Braza Ginga FC 2:0, with Daniel Forbes starring in goals. Keeping the star-studded Braza side goalless is certainly an achievement, with Murdoch displaying why they have the 3rd meanest defence in the league. The final match of the round saw Balga FC defeat Spearwood Lions FC 3:1, with Dylan Timms scoring twice in his debut match for Balga – welcome to the State Futsal League Dylan!
