2018-2019 WSFL Preview: Rockingham Cambio Cumbre
Last Season: 3rd
Started with a flurry, ended with a whimper. The season kicked off with La Cumbre duking it out with Stirling and South Perth for position at the top of the pile and preparing for SFA. After mighty showing interstate, they settled for third and a Grand Final spot at home as suspension, absences and the ups and downs of twenty one rounds took hold. Though they did claim the scalp of Stirling in the finals to send the champions packing.
Never one to idle Cam Harel immediately looked for reinforcements. They duly arrived with former South Perth star Courtney Owen checking in. The dynamic flanker sure to add to the running power of Bea Wan, Lucy Jones and Anna De Felice. They paused just long enough to sign one for the future as well, raiding Fremantle for young up and comer Elise Cleminson.
After the closest WSFL season in recent memory Cambio Cumbre, look rearmed, reinforced and perfectly prepared to go one better this time around. With the names and the squad to fight out a 24 round season without the distraction of SFA, is this the season they rightfully claim their prize?
The only question is who will be the goalkeeper to get them there, Tash Quick or Sophie Gherardi.
Main Lady: Cam Harel
You can’t go past the Mauritian powerhouse. MVP last season and arguably in waiting to retain the prize this season. Sparkling showings at home and interstate, she packs hammers in both feet after racking up the goals. When she plays well Cumbre win, and she usually plays well. Can she lead Cumbre to finally claim the crown? It’s been far too long.
One to Watch: Sophie Gherardi
She may have been around for an age, but this kid is only eighteen. She starred at SFA after a stop start campaign playing second fiddle to League Legend Tash Quick as the rotations kicked in. With expectations raised and another massive season ahead, it’s time for the young keeper to justify her choice to stay and fight for the number one shirt.
