2018-2019 SFL Grand Final Preview
The two most successful clubs in the Nike State Futsal League have made it to the Grand Final. Another epic final awaits between two of the giants of futsal in WA. And yet another Brauner vs Fonseca encounter to wet the appetite of the enamoured futsal community. Braza got there the by finishing 1st in the regular season & then defeating EWA in the preliminary final. Cumbre, having finished 3rd in the regular season, had a much tougher route: they had to win 3 elimination finals, with Murdoch pushing them all the way, and then surprisingly more comfortable victories over Longobarda and EWA.
Braza have been terrific all season long, with their strength in depth helping them maintain their form in a gruelling 33 week campaign. Cumbre’s form has ebbed and flowed as their depth was tested several times during the regular season. But their form kicked in at the decisive moments, in particular when they trimmed their SFL squad and played their star players longer. Whilst Braza’s depth has allowed them to keep their enigmatic leaders Victor Brauner and Thiago Mesquita wrapped in cotton wool, Cumbre have relied heavily on their star players, in particular Nestor Fonseca, whose goals & leadership have been critical factors in maintaining their spot amongst the elite.
Will Stirling confirm their position as the best side in the competition, or will Rockingham continue their fine recent form in an arduous finals campaign to take the Ginga out of their more favoured opponents? One thing is for certain, expect another thrilling encounter between these long time rivals.
