2018-2019 SFL Preview: Perth Longobarda
Last Season: Inactive
Filippo Ostuni has been here before and is determined to see his club do some damage in the summer. He’s wasted no time in making waves, signing up Robert Armellini in record time. The big fixer with the wand of a left foot always makes the players around him better. He looks to be a major asset for the coming campaign.
The likes of Luigi Vetere and Remo Capitani are no strangers to the league. Remo Capitani with a short lived stint at South Perth last season before shunning other clubs to return to Longobarda. That spell had him miss an awful lot of futsal with a few injuries and a nasty concussion, robbing the SFL of seeing the best of him. This time around is his chance to show what he can do. Keep an eye our for a long range thunderbolt or three.
The club were in the running for Jason Quintiliani before he opted for EWA. With thirty three rounds in store the search for a goalkeeper to compete with Yethiha Aung is on the cards. Sam Moretta took a brief break after leaving Murdoch last season. Can Filippo lure the man with the aerodynamic haircut back into the firing line?
Once a team, now firmly a club. From JSFL to Masters the club have grown and grown these past few seasons. Now for SFL to take centre stage.
Main Man: Robert Armellini
The man with the magical left foot. A marquee name at Spearwood Lions last season and the heartbeat of their SFL side before departing. His free agency prompted a mad scramble to secure the signature of the former Vic Viper won by the men in blue. Undoubtedly Longobarda will reap the rewards of his vision as he dictates the tempo. If he plays a full season, he could be a dark horse for MVP honours. Don’t know why? Play with him and you’ll understand.
One to Watch: Jan Cok
Kept himself occupied this season in the Pro Futsal World Cup and promptly took out a few individual awards elsewhere. Strong as an ox and mean on the turn, the target looms as a key man for Longobarda this time as an outlet up top and a runner out wide. The way he links up with Armellini and Capitani will prove pivotal to Longobarda’s campaign.
